Thanks for the input! I kind of agree, but at least it's a first step. The interface is written in JavaScript with a little DHTML (I am not a fan of flash either). Any ideas on a less distractive interface? Maybe without the typing effect and a rectangle shape that updates at large intervals. What do you think?

We are working on creating an RSS feed for the site-wide ticker content.

I like your "as long as the ads are on the blog somewhere, it doesn't matter where you put it" idea and I would like to change it to do that. How about having either a single vertical or horizontal ad, each with its own tag like <$SlogVerticalAd$> and <$SlogHorizontalAd$>. Each blog would have to have at least one of these in their template somewhere, otherwise the default ad would show. What do you all think?

We are always open to constructive suggestions!

Text ads are only placed after the first post in a free blog, not every post.

But to make them less obtrusive, we just changed the text ads to use the color scheme of the free blog being used, which will be evident the next time you publish your free blog.

Pro members do not have ads. We think that $1/month or $10/year is a small price to pay to remove ads from a free blog.
