I have another movie recommendation: "Avalon." It was filmed with Dutch actors and directed by Mamoro Oshii, a Japanese director who also did the anime "Ghost in the Shell." The two films are very similar, but even if you've already seen GitS, the imagery and music in "Avalon" are worth experiencing. Plus, any of you who thought Uma Thurman's character in "Pulp Fiction" was hot may similarly enjoy watching the lead actor in "Avalon." Big blue eyes and short brown hair. I leave for Okinawa tomorrow, where I'll go scuba diving. I'll spend 5 days on Iriomote Island, one of the last scantily developed areas in Japan. It should be beautiful and warm. Then I'll go to Miyako Island, where drinking is said to be serious pastime. Don't expect me to get drunk, but I'd like to learn about Okinawan culture. It's supposed to be quite different from that of northern Honshuu, which is hardly surprising. I think of northern Honshuu as being like the US East Coast, while Okinawa is similar to Hawaii.
