This site has moved. I'm over here now. Somehow, Blogstudio ended up deleting all my posts. I doubt it was done purposely, but regardless, I'm not going to stick with an unreliable service.

George W. Bush blatantly lied several times during Thursday's debate. As if that should come as any shock. Some fellow came up with eight of these lies, which you can read by clicking here. Here are a few that really caught my eye, along with my thoughts -
Falsehood #1: ". . . to have bilateral talks with North Korea. It's precisely what Kim Jong Il wants. It will cause the six-party talks to evaporate. It will mean that China no longer is involved." Truth: Each of the other four countries involved in the six-part process have also held private talks with North Korea. China has repeatedly asked the Bush administration to talk directly with North Korea and has never said it would pull out of the six-part talks if the U.S. enters bilateral talks. In fact, the Bush Administration has held several direct talks with North Korea. As recently as a few months ago, Secretary of State Colin L. Powell met with his North Korean counterpart. Unforgiveable. North Korea is the single greatest threat this world faces. Yes, even greater than the threat posed by the Islamofascists. What the hell is Bush thinking here? Kim is just waiting for the right moment to blow us to smithereens, and he has the weapons to do it. Bush acts like he is too afraid of Kim to deal with him, and that's probably the case. I can't see how it would hurt to have one-on-one talks with his people. Not sure if it would help, either, but we've got to do something here. We certainly cannot rely on the treacherous Chinese to deal with the problem, as Bush suggests.
Falsehood #2: "Actually, we've increased funding for dealing with nuclear proliferation about 35 percent since I've been the president." Truth: In his first budget, he proposed a 13 percent cut -- about $116 million -- and much of the increases since then were not in Bush's budgets but have been added by Congress. John Kerry should have noted this. He was the one who, correctly, stated nuclear proliferation was the world's biggest threat. Why didn't he pound Bush for once proposing to cut funding on this? On the other hand, it is extremely disingenuous for Bush to suggest HE was the one who has increased funding when it has been members of Congress. Kerry missed a golden opportunity here, but maybe he'll address it on the campaign trail.
Falsehood #4: "Ten million citizens have registered to vote (in Afghanistan) . . . Forty-one percent of those 10 million are women." Truth: A Sept. 28 report from Human Rights Watch said: "The tally of registered voters in Afghanistan, over 10.5 million in a voting age population of 26 million, is now believed to be significantly inaccurate, the result of widespread multiple registration by voters. As explained here, pronouncements by Afghan and international officials boasting that 40 percent of registered voters are women ignores the likelihood that tens of thousands of women have been registered more than once (some believing their voting card would entitle them to benefits or food rations), and masks regional variation in the figures, including data from some southern provinces showing that less than 10 percent of those registered are women." Why do I have the feeling the President has no fucking clue what the hell is happening in Afghanistan? We'll see how well those "free elections" go. Kerry accurately pointed out that warlords now once again control most of the country, and of course Bush had no response to that. Not exactly a success in the War on Terror. But, keep patting yourself on the back there, George.
