Scientlogy in Romania

According to the Scientology Press Office there are new Scientology groups cropping up all over Romania now, with the Scientology Volunteer MinistersGoodwill tour there for the past few months there are just so many people interested in Scientology and Dianetics. And that's just great!

My grandmother was from Romania I think. It's hard to tell exactly where she was as her town was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire" which disappreared before the end of WWI.

I was surprised, when I tried to read Romanian, that I was just about able to do so. I speak French and although I'd heard that Romanian was a Romance language like French or Italian, it never really hit, unti I started following this VM tour and realized I could read it even though written in their own language.

I got an IPod for Christmas.

I really had not intention to get an IPod. I thought it was a bit too trendy for me.

But when my sister-in-law gave me a Nano I have to admit I was immediately taken by it. Such a compact little thing. And quite aesthetic. And the packaging is brilliant - all in a little case, everything you need to operate it.

Even so, it took me a couple of weeks to figure out how to plug it in and charge it and download songs onto it. I had to get help from one of my friends.

But I was proved to be a snob.

I LOVE my IPod.

It has fabulous fidelity. It is easy to use. It doesn't hurt my ears (which other similar ear pieces do), and it's just fun.

L. Ron Hubbard's Technology Rehabilitating Offenders

Criminon is one of my favorite charities.

I figure if you can turn around a life, you have not only helped that person, you've helped everyone in his/her family, and all the people he/she might otherwise have harmed.

So much loss in life, property and happiness goes along with crime. And so there is so much to be gained by helping one person regain his/her self respect and get on track, living in cooperation and producing and exchanging something with other people instead of always taking, consuming and ruining things.

Here's the success story of a Criminon participant:

"Until recently, I have lived my life and based my decisions on one principle, "If it feels good and it seems right, then do it" This principle is not a good way for one to be successful or ensure one's survival.

Eight months ago I made a decision to learn new ways to live my life: I opened my mind to all wisdom, knowledge and understanding that would help me to discover these new ways I was searching for. I was introduced to the Criminon Correspondence Course. At first I thought the course was a bit silly, the material was basic stuff. But, here I was in prison, so I thought maybe I could use a refresher course on the basics.

"I decided to apply myself and learn everything I could from this course. As I tore apart each question, I found myself digging deep into my mind. I experienced discoveries and realizations that shocked me. I was surprised to find that I could get such a deep insight and that my thoughts could be provoked to such degree by these seemingly simple principles.

"As I continued with the course, I began to put the principles that I was learning into action. I began to see that I was changing. I feel better about myself. I came to believe that I could be successful and that I had found tools that would help me ensure my survival, my happy survival.

I have discovered a great deal about myself and how to live. I have cried to myself and laughed to myself while doing this course. With the encouragement and genuine care and concern of my supervisor, Kathie, I have found The Way to Happiness Correspondence Course to be the primary source of my new found self-respect, dignity and hope."

Now that speeks for itself.

People sometimes ask me if Criminon is Scientology. The answer is no. It really isn't. Scientology and Criminon both use the research and technology L. Ron Hubbard developed. If you have discovered basic truths about life and the universe, as Mr. Hubbard did, the apply to any part of life where people are involved.

Criminon is there to rehabilitate offenders - get them off drugs if they are addicts and get them back into communication with their fellow man. Of course the person doing the program is treated as a spiritual being. That's what he is, and of course the basics of Scientology apply because we're talking about life.

Scientology, on the other hand, is a religion. It applies the whole body of L. Ron Hubbard's discoveries to completely rehabilitate the native abilities of the being, which are incredibly extensive. Scientology is the road to total freedom as a being. It is a spiritual journey to understand life and regain all one's native ability.

Saying Criminon is Scientology because it uses LRH tech is like saying that cooking or riding a bike are the same thing as physics because they both deal with the same thing as mechanical engineering or rocket science because they both apply Trouton's Rule (a fairly esoteric statement of formulas relating to boiling points).

I can't believe I just spent 5 minutes ranting and lost it because I clicked the wrong shortcut and it nuked my posting.

Boy is that ever annoying.

I also can't believe that I haven't posted here since October. Where have I BEEN?

What I was ranting about was the big Pharma ads in Newsweek, Time etc.

I am sick of these creeps trying to make life a disease.

Here's an example of how crazy it is.

A guy cheats on his girlfriend. So he feels like a creep. That's because he just did a creepy thing!

Now, he then goes out and does something cool, like helps someone. Now he feels good. That's GOOD.

But then he sees his girlfriend, and doesn't have the nerve to tell her what he did. He feels like a creep again.

Okay. So then he opens a magazine and finds out he has bipolar disorder.

No. He has "I shouldn't have cheated and should have fronted up and told her" disorder.

That's just LIFE.

What comes out of a bottle won't cure it. It will only cover it up and make you numb.

It will also make you fat and impotent.

It will also rob you of your motivation and zeal.

Isn't it better (if harder) to take responsibility for what you've done?

For anyone who would prefer to LIVE life, I recommend Scientology.

If you're having a rough time living life, maybe there's something you don't know about life.

And if that's the case, isn't it worth learning it?

I really recommend An Introduction to Scientology.

It's the only filmed interview of L. Ron Hubbard. He describes what Scientology is in terms anyone can understand. And I'll tell you, if you spend an hour watching this interview I think you'll come away with some ideas of what you can do to feel better without having to medicate your life.

The other night I was at an event with a lot of my friends. It was the Scientology New Years Event and David Miscavige was recapping what we've done over the past year as a religion.

I was struck my how many people were helped last year by learning about Scientology.

So I thought I'd write my suggestions.

(And hopefully, this time I won't be a dufus and won't nuke my posting before I post it!

Atmosphere of a Scientology Church and the New London Org

BetsyD say:

Oct. 24, 2006 - More on London
I remember when I first got into Scientology, even though it was at a very small Scientology mission, the thing I noticed first was how friendly and genuine the people were. They really cared about me and I needed some help at that time and it was very welcome.

I've been to some of the new Scientology churches - the one in San Francisco, San Jose, Los Gatos and Mountain View. And they are really bustling, exciting places. But the thing that still stands out the most about all of them is their friendliness and helpfulness.

I am so exciting about the London org. I think it was two years ago that David Miscavige announced that the Victoria Street building had been purchased, and now, here it is.

It's interesting and it's really true. There is a certain feeling in a Scientology org that really struck me too. But I've heard a lot of people say the same thing.

It's like the people and the space itself reflect the same purpose of helping you to be everything you're capable of and making it totally safe for you.

I've heaDavid Miscavige describe the intention for building this new breed of church that is much more oriented to helping the community and I think that's just great!

That's a real luxury, let me tell you.

Church of Scientology opens new London HQ

I was looking through Google News and was delighted to see this story!

Here's one story from Associated Press:
It was rumoured Cruise would attend the ceremony but he did not show.

The Church of Scientology unveiled its new London headquarters today with a grand opening ceremony.

The religion, which counts Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and John Travolta among its followers, is expanding its British operation.

It has bought and refurbished the former home of the British and Foreign Bible Society, latterly the offices of BP, for its new HQ.

The five-storey Victorian building in the City of London is a stone's throw from St Paul's Cathedral and stands next door to an Anglican church, from where parishioners emerged after their Sunday service to watch the proceedings with some bemusement.

Several hundred Scientologists, including church dignitaries and assorted VIPs, braved the driving rain for the outdoor ceremony.

They listened to an address by Scientology leader David Miscavige, whose arrival was greeted with whoops and cheers from the crowd.

Mr Miscavige described the occasion as "momentous".

Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard chose London as home to the organisation's first offices.

Mr Miscavige said: "This day will go down in history. Of all the foreign lands where LRH lived and worked, he called England home.

"This is the city wherein he first defined the human spirit as an immortal being possessed of capabilities beyond anything predicted and so arrived at the axiomatic truths on which the whole of Scientology is founded."

Other speakers at the event included United Nations peace envoy Dr Iftikhar Ahmed Ayaz, who praised the faith and told the crowd: "It is my personal belief that this church can restore what this world has lately lost."

Kevin Hurley, divisional commander of the local Snow Hill police station welcomed the church to the City and said its members were "raising the spiritual wealth of society".

The ceremony began with a procession by the London Scottish Regimental Pipe and Drum Band and ended with an explosion of red, white and blue tickertape.

Afterwards the public were invited inside to discover more about the work of the Scientologists.

One room is devoted to the accomplishments of Hubbard - described as an explorer, writer, naval officer, humanitarian, artist and philosopher.

Video screens and exhibitions explain the various Scientology programmes, which include anti-drugs courses and a campaign against the perceived evils of psychiatry.

Among the guests who did attend was Hollywood actress Anne Archer, whose roles include Michael Douglas's wife in Fatal Attraction.

Archer was raised a Christian Scientist but joined the Church of Scientology in 1976 and credits it with turning her life around.

She said: "I met some people who I observed to be very sane and who said some very interesting things. I later found out they were Scientologists.

"At that time I had some problems in my life and I went for my first auditing.

"The change was so remarkable and so quick. I went from feeling utter despair to positivity within two weeks."

Archer conceded that Scientology has received a bad press but said: "All new ideas are criticised but we are doing remarkable things."

Moving Story

Thorsten Overgaard is a Danish photographer and feature writer, and a Scientologist.

He has written a book and created a web site called "After the Tsunami" which is beautiful and very moving.

Here's his own story of how he came to write the book:

"The wrong thing to do is nothing."

That is a quote from L. Ron Hubbard that resonates as a profound truth for me and how I think and how I work.

My two biggest regrets in this life were (and are) that I didn't drive to Berlin the night the Berlin Wall fell and that I didn't go to New York after September 11. In both cases I had a strong urge to go, but something in me said, "be sensible."

We all carry an urge in us to reach out and do something as well as a voice urging us to be sensible and behave as if everything wrong is somebody else's problem.

In the instance of the tsunami in South East Asia my urge to reach out and help conquered all my fears of strange diseases, pictures in my mind of dead bodies floating in a sea of chaos and a generally low knowledge about Asia and the people living there.

496 Scientologists from all over the world as well had that strong urge to reach out and help their fellow men. Strong enough to have them arrive in Asia. To them the After The Tsunami project is dedicated.

CLEARWATER, FL -- Pat Harney is the spokeswoman for the Church of Scientology's World Spiritual Headquarters in Clearwater.

She is showing off a packet of pamphlets that draw all eyes to drugs that are known for their abuse on the streets, like Crystal Meth, LSD, cocaine, and marijuana.

"45-percent of kids take marijuana in a one-month period," said Pat Harney, Church of Scientology spokeswoman.

But the blitz also includes a warning against a drug prescribed to children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, as Harney holds up a red pamphlet.

"This is kiddie cocaine, which is the street name for Ritalin," said Pat Harney, Church of Scientology spokeswoman.

Scientology members and supporters believe Ritalin is over-prescribed, to where pills leave the medicine cabinet and end up at teen parties, where the side effects of the drug can come into play.

"Visual hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, aggressive and violent behavior. These are serious consequences. And what we're saying is, you have to know this parents^and kids."

Meeting the 10-year Goals of the United Nations Office for Drugs and Crime

I see, from reading an article on the Scientology News site that we are only a bit over a year away from the 10 years set by the UN to create substantial change in drug use on the planet.

Unforturnately, for the past 5 years, since the US kicked the Taliban out of Afghanistan, that country has gone into intense opium production, and the word is that it is up more than 50% this year over last year.

I don't think there is any doubt that the Taliban was a repressive regime.

But they did run control on drug production, and the drugs pouring into Europe now are killing us. Literally.

The celebration of the grand opening of the newest Scientology Mission in Kazakhstan in full swing!

Lovely ladies in beautiful costumes were dancing their welcome to the Scientology Mission of Aksu.

The Deputy of the Pavlodar City Council, who is himself a Scientologist, Mr. Bolat Adilkanov, presented Andrey Kolasnik the Mission Director with a proclamation to L. Ron Hubbard.

Then Mr. Alexander Abramenko from the Pavlodar University then welcomed the new Mission and spoke of the remarkable results he has personally seen in pupils with the use and application of LRH study technology.

Scientology Books

I would have a hard time saying with Scientology book was my favorite one. But of the ones I've read recently the one I found most fascinating was "8-80."

L. Ron Hubbard speaks a lot about the energy potential of a being. I'd never known most of what he covered in this book!

Slavery in Los Angeles

I heard something I found pretty terrible -- that Los Angeles is one of the cities with the most slave trafficking in the world.

I was really shocked to hear this.

I suppose it's because it is a port for all Asian traffic. But it is frightful and if Angelinos really knew this I think they'd rise up in arms against it!

Thoughts on an August Evening

I think I'm a very lucky person. I see other people who are sort of floundering in life. They have given up on the goals they set and are in dark games with one another.

Some few, very fortunate people, are doing well most of the time, but the they still have people around them who are in trouble.

It is so great, as a Scientologist, to know how to help people.

I think that's even better than the help I've GOTTEN from Scientolog.

With the urgent need for effective disaster response in light of recent increased terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and the series of bombings that rocked Mumbai on July 11th, the Civil Defense Agency of Calcutta has implemented Scientology disaster response training for 20 of their personnel this week.

The Minister of Civil Defense, realizing the potential of these techniques in calming violence, personally welcomed the participants to the class, which the Scientology Volunteer Ministers India Goodwill Tour is providing to 20 of the agency's training personnel. Once through their study program, these staff will implement disaster response training on a broad scale with agency personnel.

Using the Scientology Handbook, a textbook based on the works of L. Ron Hubbard, this training puts practical tools in the hands of emergency response personnel Űtools they can use to establish communication, help people overcome trauma and bring calm to an area, quelling any potential of violence.

In addition to their work with the Calcutta Civil Defense Agency, the Scientology Volunteer Ministers India Goodwill Tour is training 200 key personnel of the Rotary Club of West Bengal at their request.

I'm Proud of the Scientologists who went to Java

I have been following what the Scientology Disaster Relief Team has been doing in Java, and I am so proud of what they have accomplished.

Imagine, flying out to a country far away from home (most of the volunteers were from Australia but they came from as far away as Sweden and the United States) that has just been devastated, with a million and a half people homeless. Even just finding a place to stay would be an incredible challenge. You don't think about it, but relief workers are living life in the raw. If the food and water is contaminated by the destruction of infrastructure that would provide for sanitation, guess who's eating the same food?

Then add to that what it takes to just go into a hospital and see the thousands and thousands of injured people, lying on matresses and even just on cardboard on the concrete floors of the hospital parking structures, and how about the desparate people who don't know how to help their injured family members?

That's what you don't necessarily hear about but that's what a volunteer has to face.

And these guys have done such an amazing job.

A few weeks ago David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, made a point of singling out the Scientolgy Volunteer ministers who went to Java and those who went to Queensland, Australia after Cyclone Larry, and commending them.

I watched Mr. Miscavige's speech at the Church of Scientology of Los Angeles two weeks ago and I thought, now these people really deserve that acknowledgment.

How the mental health industry perverted Child Protective Services

"Nothing can be more heart-wrenching than the loss of a child," writes Freedom Magazine. "For that reason, kidnappings mobilize entire communities to search for the missing and comfort the victimized families. In high-profile cases, such as that of Elizabeth Smart, the entire nation watches. Amber Alert systems notify police and private citizens to watch for the perpetrators."

But Freedom goes on to show how psychiatric labeling of children as learning disabled has created a new form of government-sanctioned child abuse.

According to the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association) the protocal for treating ADHD and ADD are the administering of Ritalin and other similar meds which are classified as
schedule 2 drugs (the classification of heroin, morphine and cocaine) and parents who refuse to allow their children to be so treated can be labeled as child abusers and their kids forceably taken from them.

It's a horror story and it's happening right as I write and you read.

Read the article online on the Freedom web site.

If you know of anyone abused by psychiatry and want help, contact Citizens Commission on Human Rights (CCHR).

CCHR was founded by the Church of Scientology and most Scientology churches sponsor chapters of this group. The 1-800 number for CCHR is 1-800-869-2247.

Which witch

According to the Washington Post:
The Witch of Pungo -- who supposedly accursed Tidewater farms in the 17th and 18th centuries -- has been cleared of all charges, namely that she was ever a witch.

On Monday, 300 years after Grace Sherwood was convicted at a trial that saw her thrown into the Lynnhaven River with her thumbs tied to her feet, Gov. Timothy M. Kaine pardoned her. The rules of the trial were simple: If you floated, you were guilty of being a witch; if you sank, you were cleared. And dead.

Sherwood floated.

She served more than seven years in jail, was released and lived until she was 80. She is the only person convicted in Virginia by a "witch ducking trial."

Ooh. Don't like the sound of that justice...

New Scientology Mission in Tijuana, Mexico

I found this article on the web site of the Church of Scientology of San Diego.

San Diego is the Scientology Church closest to the boarder town of Tijuana, and the church has been working with executive director of the new mission to help him open the mission and train his staff.

It's pretty common knowledge that drugs is a huge problem in this city, and the anti-drug program is one of the priorities of the mission:

Tijuana, Mexico is located on the US border, 12 miles south of San Diego, California. It is one of Mexico's major tourist cities with tens of thousands of visitors each year. 50,000 vehicles pass by the location of the new Scientology Mission of Tijuana every day.

Mission Director Carlos Diaz became a Scientologist nearly three years ago and has been actively disseminating Dianetics and Scientology technology to others ever since. The mission Executive Director, Trini Roso Hernandez, is a trained Dianetics counselor and regularly gives lectures on Dianetics counseling techniques and the miracle wins she's delivered to others.

Carlos and Trini teamed up to open the new Tijuana Mission because they want to help both children and adults improve their lives and, more specifically, they want to help those with drug problems in this city.

Along with a mariachi band dressed in full traditional attire, the Public Executive Secretary for the Church of Scientology of San Diego also attended the grand opening. He told the new mission staff that the Church of Scientology of San Diego is looking forward to giving them any assistance they need to do the job of assisting the people of Tijuana lead better lives and to create a brighter future for their city.

Italian Scientologists Say No to Drugs

Some of the most enthusiastic crusaders in the anti-drug movement are the Scientologists from Italy.

For many years they have been helping their communities with syringe pick-ups to protect kids from contracting HIV/AIDS from discarded paraphernalia.

They have distributed hundreds of thousands of booklets and flyers letting kids know the truth about drugs.

They've gotten the support of community leaders, sports figures and public officials in their campaign.

And they have just ramped up their campaign. With the help of the Church of Scientology International they are releasing new anti-drug booklets, with updated information, and facts and figures that will help kids make sensible decisions about (not) taking drugs.

I found this press release online just now. I love to see this kind of thing because I have gotten so much out of the books I've read by L. Ron Hubbard and this new campaign looks like it will introduce so many more people to the technology he developed.

L. Ron Hubbard's Works Presented by Three Publishers -- in 65 Languages -- at Book Expo America

At the Book Expo America, three publishers presented L. Ron Hubbard's works in the non-fiction, fiction and "effective education" categories. Mr. Hubbard's best-selling books are the most translated in the publishing industry, according to Guiness Book of World Records. Every six seconds, someone buys a book by L. Ron Hubbard, the worldɓ most translated best-selling author.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) May 24, 2006 -- Each year, Book Expo America (BEA) parades everything new in books for the publishing trade and this year at the Washington Convention Center, one author stood out: L. Ron Hubbard. As is traditional at the worldɓ largest book trade show, thousands of first-time novelists and international best-selling authors promoted their titles over the weekend to retailers and distributors who decide what will fill bookstore shelves for the next year.

The diversity and international appeal of Mr. Hubbard's works was reflected in the three publishers exclusively representing his titles at the BEA:

Bridge Publications showcased Mr. Hubbard's non-fiction titles, including Dianetics, an international publishing phenomenon, which has sold over 21 million copies in 55 languages. Many industry observers find it astonishing that the full library of Mr. Hubbardɓ works on Dianetics technology and the Scientology religion he founded includes more than 3,000 lectures, three encyclopedic series and over 40 million written words.

In a year in which it has sparked more grassroots interest than ever before, spokespeople for Dianetics announced its entrance into one of the worldɓ most popular sports, joining the NASCAR family. On Friday, May 19, the new ɩgnite Your PotentialŀDianetics Racing Team, was unveiled at the BEA by Kenton Gray, founder of Freedom Motorsports Group, Inc., and a top performing Southern California race car driver. Gray and Bridge PublicationsĠrepresentatives unveiled both the new Dianetics race car and bookɓ new sales campaign.

Galaxy Press (www.galaxypress.com) continued to introduce whole new generations to Mr. Hubbardɓ master storytelling. This weekend, they presented their 25-year publishing plan, re-releasing some 250 L. Ron Hubbard classic fiction titles spanning genres of adventure, westerns, suspense, science fiction, fantasy and mystery, and using original cover artwork and illustrations.

A third publisher, Effective Education Publishingfulfilled the worldwide demand for Mr. Hubbardɓ educational books that detail his breakthrough learning methods. Not only do some of Hollywoodɓ biggest names use and promote these works, but so do tens of thousands of teachers and millions of students the world over, as well.

With more than 230 million works sold, L. Ron Hubbard continues to break publishing records 20 years after his passing. He is unquestionably one of the most acclaimed and widely read authors of all time, with new international sales figures confirming that an L. Ron Hubbard book sells every six seconds.

Mr. Hubbardɓ prolific output is recognized across the world, witness the Guinness World Records, which spotlights him as ɴhe Worldɓ Most Translated Authorōverified as such in 65 languages, topping Sidney Sheldonɓ previously set record of 51, and the unofficial counts for J. K. Rowlingɓ Harry Potter (63) and Anne Frank's classic Anne Frank Diary (64). The United States Library of Congress Rare Book and Special Collection Division also honors Mr. Hubbard's writing career, archiving a full collection of his early pulp fiction works adjacent to the writings of Thomas Jefferson and Abraham Lincoln.

I noticed that Human Rights Watch is holding their 17th annual Human Rights Film Festival right now in New York. The film festival "promotes dialogue and activism through the screening of distinguished documentary and dramatic films."

"Human Rights Watch brings these films to an international audience and seeks to empower viewers with the knowledge that personal commitment can make a very real difference."

I have experienced this personally, where by watching a film I've gained a completely new perspective on some aspect of life.

The Church of Scientology International is working with Youth for Human Rights International to release a series of public service announcements that bring home the message of human rights through the medium of film. these are only 30 seconds long but they are masterpieces. The first three can be viewed online at the Church of Scientology International Human Rights News Forum, and I've heard that 27 more of these are soon to be released.

Of the three that are online, my favorite is the "Don't discriminate" PSA. It is so full of life. I've watched it dozens of times and it never gets old.

Scientology Church Grand Openinings
I've written about several grand openings recently, so I'll carry on with another one.

A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to San Francisco when the Church of Scientology of San Francisco held its grand opening.

Typical weather greated us this morning - unfortunate as the entire stage and seating area were outside, with the street in front of the Church closed for the occasion.

There were Chinese dragon dancers, a full brass band, and hundreds of well wishers waiting while the sky decided what it was going to do.

Drizzling on and off, it didn't look too promising.

Then just before David Miscavige took the stage, the rain stopped.

Mr. Miscavige gave an inspiring speech, where he laid out the special role San Francisco has in the history of Scientology, and the role this new San Francisco church has in the expansion of Scientology internationally.

This was followed by the ribbon cutting.

Just as the final balloons rose in the air, and the dignitaries started to file into the Church for a tour of the new premises, the skies opened and the rain let loose.

The Church is magnificent, and is totally oriented toward service to the community.

It was really gratifying this year at the Birthday event commemorating L. Ron Hubbard's birthday to hear the San Francisco churches acknowledged for reaching the size the Saint Hill church in England had reached in the mid-60's when L. Ron Hubbard was the Executive Director. We call it "Saint Hill Size" and it is a major accomplishment.

Congratulations to the staff and executives of the Church of Scientology of San Francisco!

Church of Scientology of Spain

The Church of Scientology of Spain has a beautiful headquarters in Madrid.

When they held their grand opening, Tom Cruise spoke and shared how much he had gained from Scientology and how delighted he was to have this beautiful church open in the city he loved.

Another highlight was the speech by Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, Mr. David Miscavige.

This grand opening was a dream come true. Mr. Miscavige had announced the plans for this church International Association of Scientologists was

David Miscavige Speech at Celebrity Centre Gala

Dubleindem writes:

As stated on the Religious Technology Center web site:

On August 7, 2004, Mr. David Miscavige presented a global overview of the Scientology religion to over 2,000 leaders in the fields of the arts, entertainment, commerce and government.

What follows is an extract from this definitive address spanning the state of Earth today and the role of the Scientology religion in solving planetary decline Űfrom social reform organizations to volunteer ministers, from grass-roots programs to Scientology Churches themselves.

In the months preceding this event Mr. Miscavige had personally attended and spoken at the Grand Openings of various Scientology churches -- churches which are now set up to provide service to every sector of society with community programs that work.

Mr. Miscavige dedicated the new Scientology church in Johannesburg, South Africa and reminded those attending of L. Ron Hubbard's dream of a new civilization sprining from the African continent.

Buffalo was another church Mr. Miscavige visited for their grand opening, where the mayor of the city personally attended and presented the church with a proclamation.

At the Church of Scientology of San Francisco grand opening Mr. Miscavige further emphasized the importance of reaching out to help the community with the tools L. Ron Hubbard developed to improve the quality of life.

The This is Scientology" speech is available in DVD form from Bridge Publications, publishers of Dianetics and Scientology books for the Western Hemisphere.

I was at this event at Celebrity Centre and what this blog omits is what an incredible speaker David Miscavige is. The crowd was completely engrossed with what he had to say.

Mr. David Miscavige at the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of New York

When Mr. David Miscavige came to New York for the grand opening of the
Church of Scientology of New York
it was a truly grand occasion for Scientologists, not just in New York but all over the world.

Right after 9/11, when New York Scientologists were putting their own lives and health on the line to help the emergency workers at Ground Zero, Mr. Miscavige put out a call to all Scientologists to take more responsibility for the world we are living in.

A few months later he awarded the Scientology Volunteer Ministers of New York with the presentation of the International Association of Scientologists Freedom Medal - the highest honor a Scientologist can earn.

These New York Scientologists were a real inspiration to members of the Church around the world.

Mr. Miscavige announced that the International Association of Scientologists had decided to fully renovate the New York church, which is located right on Times Square.

So, when he came to give the keynote address at the Grand Opening 2 years later, it was such a special occasion.

Mr. Miscavige's speech has been excerpted and is online at the New York church's web site.

Scientology in San Francisco

The Church of Scientology of San Francisco is expanding and providing more and more service to the community.

Scientologists in the Bay Area are delighted with the new building that is the home of the Church. But it has grown so much in the two years it has been there that they need additional quarters to house the community activities the Church provides.

Recently, at the "March 13th event" (a Scientology holiday commemorating the birth of Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard) Scientologists from around the world congregated in Clearwater for the presentation, hosted by Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center.

Fans of the San Francisco Church were ecstatic to hear that it was awarded a very special prize for having reached "the Size of Old Saint Hill" (the Church in East Grinstead, where Mr. Hubbard lived in the early to mid 1960s and where he developed much of the technology and administrative procedures used by the Church, and which expanded so fast and grew so large that it has served as a model for Scientology churches ever since).

Mr. Miscavige welcomed the Church of Scientology of San Francisco to its new home in November 2003, and its accomplishing this goal of being "Saint Hill Size" is a real milestone for this church.

Scientology and the Center for the Study of New Religions

The Center for the Study of New Religions (CESNUR)is an Italian-based NGO (non-governmental organization headed by Italian scholar Massimo Introvigne. It was established in 1988 by a group of religious scholars from leading universities in Europe and the Americas.

According to their web site:

In the 1990s it became apparent that inaccurate information was being disseminated to the media and the public powers by activists associated with the international anti-cult movement. Some new religious movements also disseminated unreliable or partisan information.

CESNUR became more pro-active and started supplying information on a regular basis, opening public centers and organising conferences and seminars for the general public in a variety of countries.

Today CESNUR is a network of independent but related organizations of scholars in various countries, devoted to promote scholarly research in the field of new religious consciousness, to spread reliable and responsible information, and to expose the very real problems associated with some movements, while at the same time defending everywhere the principles of religious liberty.

CESNUR recently announce that it has acquired one of the rarest pulp magazines, Astounding Science Fiction, vol. XLV, no. 3, May 1950.

They have a very informative section on the Scientology religion.

In this issue, prior to the publication of Dianetics the Modern Science of Mental Health, was an article by L. Ron Hubbard on Dianetics including a note by editor John W. Campbell, Jr. called "Concerning Dianetics."

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Helping Sort Out Relationships

I have a friend who is a Scientology Volunteer Minister, and she spends time on the weekend at her Church's Volunteer Ministers tent, where people come in for help to handle various aspects of their lives.

She told me the story of a woman who had had trouble for years with her mother. They just couldn't get along with one another at all. It was very upsetting to this woman, and she had given up on being able to resolve this.

My friend had her get a copy of the booklet "How to Resolve Conflicts" by L. Ron Hubbard.

A few months later this woman came back to thank my friend: she had applied what she learned from this booklet, and for the first time in over 20 years she and her mother were at peace with each other.

According to the Scientology Effective Solutions web site:

"More than a system of belief, Scientology is an applied religion that plays a vital role in both the lives of its congregation and the community at large. It brings spiritual enlightenment to man by way of religious practices that advance him to higher states of spiritual ability and understanding, while providing practical solutions to every facet of day-to-day living."

It goes on to say:

"Scientology is a religion in the deepest and most traditional sense, for it is concerned with no less than the full rehabilitation of manɓ innate spiritual self Űhis capabilities, his awareness and his certainty of his own immortality Űand his relationship to the divine."

I found an interesting article on a site called Uniquesouls.net It's about the Grand Opening of the Church of Scientology of Johannesburg in Kensington.

It states that this church is "the hub of Scientology activity in South Africa. More then 1,400 guests and well-wishers Űgovernment and religious leaders, human rights champions, celebrities and professionals, church members and friends Űcame from all over Africa and from many countries to celebrate the landmark dedication.

"The event was capped by the appearance of senior Scientology executive Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of Religious Technology Center, custodian of the religious scriptures of Scientology.

"Mr. David Miscavige's presence to dedicate and open the new church was significant, both for him, personally, as a first-time visitor to the country, as well as for the parishioners of the 45-year-old Johannesburg church. 'It is my honor to address you, to walk in a land where L. Ron Hubbard laid so many milestones, and on this, your milestone day,' he stated."

Scientology Volunteer Ministers Provide Stress Tests

In an article on the Scientology Site the following description of a stress test is given:

"Stress tests are done by Scientology volunteers on an E-Meter , a religious artifact Scientology counselors routinely use to aid parishioners in locating areas of stress and travail."

The article also states:

"Last year, as a public service, volunteer Scientologists and Dianetics counselors began providing free stress tests in the community. These can now be found in almost any city Űat malls, railway stations, or virtually any area people frequent.

"In New York, even in the freezing winter weather, volunteers can be found at tables cheerfully assisting interested persons in learning how Dianetics techniques can relieve stress."

Scientology Volunteer Ministers in Cape Town

The Scientology Volunteer Ministers web site has an interesting posting on the Scientology web site about a recent fire in Cape Town South Africa:

A team of Scientology Volunteer Ministers from Cape Town, South Africa were among the volunteers who rushed to Table Mountain on Thursday, January 26th, 2006. Fire had broken out at 4:00 pm and within an hour gale-force winds had caused it to spread over a vast area, requiring the city to mobilize all available resources from 27 metropolitan fire stations in addition to the Air Force fire-bombing helicopters.

I'm a great fan of Celebrity Centre International.

Here is what Celebrity Centre says about their purpose and activities:

The artist is capable of creating major effects that inspire our society and culture. Especially today in this high-tech age, where communications routinely address millions of people at a time Űmaking the sphere of an artistɓ influence almost boundless.

L. Ron Hubbard recognized the importance of the artist to society. Thus he created Celebrity Centre International, a Church of Scientology that specializes in delivering Dianetics and Scientology services to celebrities, professionals, leaders and promising new-comers in the fields of the arts, sports, management and government.

He realized that real celebrities deserve the best in service and care, for those are the people who are sculpting the present into the future.

Hollywood has always been the center of the entertainment industry. In this highly competitive and often tough environment, Celebrity Centre International is an oasis of creative freedom for all artists and professionals.

We take care of those who entertain, fashion and take care of the world. Come to Celebrity Centre International and gain self-respect and freedom to do what you want in your career.

This is Scientology

I found an excellent description of the Scientology Religion on the Religious Technology Cente web site. It is an excerpt of a speech entitled "This is Scientology"

David Miscavige described the Scientology Religion at Celebrity Centre International

The following press release on the Scientology site describes the event where the speech took place, at Celebrity Centre International.

Mr. David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board of Religious Technology Center, the highest ecclesiastical office in the worldwide Scientology religion, addressed the thousands in attendance, taking up the questions "What is Scientology?" and "Why do you have a Celebrity Centre?" Mr. Miscavige explained, "Scientology does have answers. Real answers. Answers that work. Bold statements? Yes. But what millions of people from over 150 nations will tell you themselves."

On-line Human Rights Seminar Sponsored by the Church of Scientology International European Office for Public Affairs and Human Rights

This entry in the Human Rights Listings blog caught my eye today.

Innovative On-line Human Rights Seminar
Launches at end of February 2006

The Spanish organisation, Documentation Sciences Foundation, has launched an on-line human rights conference covering a five-day period from the 27th February to the 3rd March. In order to reach as wide an audience as possible, the Foundation is using Interwise conferencing technology to broadcast the conference across the web.

The conference itself is loosely based around Article 25 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which covers "the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services, and the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control."

The Seminar on human rights will be given by members of the Brussels˂ased European Foundation for Human Rights and Tolerance and will be focused around audiovisual to show how human rights education can be effectively performed using modern communication media.

The Human Rights Director of the Scientology office will be moderating one of these conferences.

The Scientology religion is very much involved in human rights issues and promoting human rights and religious tolerance.

Effective Drug Education - an Important Issue

Helping kids make educated choices about their future is a very important issue, particularly when it comes to drugs. Here's a very interesting article on an anti-drug program being run by Australian Scientologists.

SCIENTOLOGISTS CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY WITH A PLEDGE TO BE DRUG FREE

In Parramatta, Australia, a city in the Sydney metropolitan area, a group of young people called the Drug-Free Ambassadors celebrated Australia Day this year by offering a helping hand to the youth of the area, educating them on the truth about drugs and encouraging them to pledge to be drug free.

The full story can be read on Scientology.org

The Church of Scientology International and all Scientology churches are very much involved in helping the society.
