My Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Diary/Journal

Part Two

Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Almost 6 Weeks Update (25 Feb 05)
Following my lasik eye surgery consultation, (not lasix eye surgery consultation! ),  back on the 14th January – I went for my lasik laser eye treatment in Essex. The lasik laser treatment I chose was mono vision correction lasik – not the more advanced lasik plus wavefront technology, as my right eye being treated did not have as much blurriness, or haloing, in it as my left eye – which was not being treated. The lasik surgery, (not lasix surgery!), was performed at a Ultralase Laser clinic ( UK) in Chelmsford, Essex.

Rather than ramble on about my lasik laser surgery and night vision etc etc I'd thought I'd give you a few questions and answers, (based on my personal experience), on lasik laser eye surgery...

Q. How long will my eyes be burry after lasik lasix eye surgery?

After one week of lasik lasix eye surgery I had the distance vision I desired, but with blurred near sight vision. Mainly on my close-up work – PC and laptop. Basically, after my lasik eye operation, my close distance vision was more or less shot-to-hell. After three weeks I was still getting a blurring around the edges of things, (road signs etc), that I’d see in the distance – and my near sight was still quite a strain.

And six weeks after my lasik laser procedure? The distance is great. The mono vision lasik eye surgery has worked. My near distance vision is not as bad, or at least it seems to be not as much as a problem as it was. (True - I could put my hand over my right eye and have almost perfect near distance vision with just my left eye – but it’s no real problem).

Q. How much time should I take off work after my lasik eye surgery?

Remember - laser lasik eye surgery is what is a called elective surgery, that's to say you don't have to have it, (unless medically prescribed by your doctor). The choice is yours as to whther you have your lasik surgery or not. (Remember to seek professional advice and consultation before agreeing to any kind of surgery of any description). The choice is also yours as to how much time you you do/do not take off work.
I had my lasik lasix laser treatment on a Saturday, worked from home on the Monday, and was back driving again on the Tuesday. I took no time off work. Yet I've also known people who have had up to three months off work after their lasix laser treatment.

Q. What are the main lasik lasix eye surgery post op complications?

Apart from blurriness mentioned above, one of the most annoying ones for me is the fact that the artificial tears can sometimes attract dust & dirt which clogs your eyes up. And if you’re not allowed to rub your eyes, it’s sometimes difficult to know whether or not your eyesight has just gone wobbly again – or there’s just dirt in there. You have to wait until you can get home, or find a bathroom, where you can get a cotton bud out and gently wash around the eyes.

My other mono vision lasik problems includes my lasix night vision – the ability to distinguish that there is a street light on top of that pole – and not a huge sunburst! In the first week or so I was treated, I was driving to local places – places which I knew quite well. So the fact that I was setting off on a dark winter’s morning wasn’t such a problem. But one day…. I ended up going to a town I’d never been to before – and I couldn’t see my turn-off for the car park because the street lights, traffic signs, car headlamps were just way too bright for me – haloing and sun bursting everywhere. Six weeks on – no real problem at all.

Q. Can I wear glasses after lasik lasix eye surgery?

This was not a question I asked, but one which the clinic threw in my direction to consider. The idea of mono vision lasik would be to treat my near sightedness, but not increase the chances of wearing reading glasses immediately after the surgery – as this would be what would happen if both eyes had been done.  So I have untreated short sight in my left eye, but as this is my weakest eye – the right one is the one that was treated with the lasik lasix laser treatment.

To answer the question – yes you can wear glasses – they gave me some reading glasses which I am trying to ignore at the moment. And what about contact lenses for nearsighted people and mono vision correction? Yes – sometimes if the mono vision doesn’t work – you can still wear a contact lense in your untreated eye to balance things up.

And with a combination of lasik laser treatment, you can also have wave front guided lasik treatment for removal of glasses.

Q. What is a microkeratome cutting tool?

I’ve no idea! Somebody asked me that because they’d heard a friend of a friend had had laser eye surgery, and knew I had had it as well. All I know it was a cold laser that shaved microns of tissue off my cornea. It also involved making a corneal flap which is currently healing itself.

Q. Would I recommend lasik lasix eye surgery? If you want it/need it – and can afford it – yes – go for it! (Remember to seek professional advice and consultation before agreeing to any kind of surgery of any description).

And that’s the story so far after six weeks. All good.

Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Over Two Month Update (19th Mar 05)
Well, here we are on my birthday, just over two months since my lasik lasix laser eye surgery. And what a fun eye care time it's been. Since my last report on 25 Feb, the following things have occurred:

1. The mono vison correction from the lasik lasix eye surgery has not reduced my near distance vision any further. In fact it has greatly improved. The eye blurriness with my laptop and PC work has virtually gone. I have avoided the reading glasses!

2. I no longer have an issue with gritty bits in the eye. This may be also as a result of reduction of use of the Hypromellose Eye Drops - the artificial tears.

The only real post op lasik lasix eye surgery complication issue I have left is stickiness or dry eyes, (dryness of the eyes). When going into hot rooms - warm centrally heated rooms - there is a tendency for my right eye to get really dry. It's like having your eye swell a little and stick to your eyelid. This can result in out of focus distance vision for a short time. But using the artificial tears can help.

The dry eyes is not a major issue, as I just spent my birthday trekking around in the warm spring day in a zoo, and there is nothing to note from that. My eyesight is improving all the time. So much so, that whilst feeding the animals etc today - I completely forgot I'd had lasik lasix eye surgery as everything seemed fine and my eyesight wasn't causing me any problems.

Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Three Month Update (9th April 05)
It's almost three months, (12 weeks), since my lasik lasix laser eye surgery. If you recall my lasik lasix eye surgery journal/diary has tracked my progress of my lasik lasix eye surgery recovery since the lasik lasix eye surgery operation on Jan 15th.

The one remaining lasik lasix eye surgery post-op complication is one of dry eyes. The question that I keep being asked is: "Dry eyes and lasix: How long have you had dry eyes since your lasik lasix eye surgery?" or "After your monovision correction lasik lasix eye surgery, how long did the blurriness from dry eyes last for?"

Well, at the moment, I still have it to a degree. My distance vision, when I'm outside walking, is fine. It's only when I go indoors, or in my car, (basically when the air is NOT blowing across my eyes to make them water), that my eye gels up - and my sight gets blurry again.

After my visit this morning to the very professional people at Ultralase, in Chelmsford, Essex, England, I was given some more fluid for dry eyes, and also some Lacri-Lube, (Ocular Lubricant) to be used in the following manner:

1. Boil some water. Let it cool a little. Moisten a flannel and rest it on my lower eyelid.
2. After a while, pinch my lower eyelid together. (This will, hopefully, make the glands in my lower eyelid lubricant - moisten themselves).
3. Moisten a cotton bud with the hot water and some baby shampoo, pull my lower eyelid down, and wash across the glands of my lower eyelid.
4. Apply a drop or two of the Lacri-Lube cream.

This process I need to do every night for the next 4 - 6 weeks. This should cure the constant dry eye problem. I have to say that apart from the dry eye issue, I have no other problems with the monovision corrective lasik lasix eye surgery.

Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Summary

I had my doubts about lasik lasix eye surgery to begin with. There are risks with it, like any kind of delicate surgery. But I am perfectly happy with the results. (Remember to seek professional advice and consultation before agreeing to any kind of surgery of any description).
