Spooks - Is Back!

From the publicity dept of the BBC...

Spooks: Day and time to be confirmed BBC ONE (Late Autumn)

The spooks - Adam (Rupert Penry-Jones), Harry (Peter Firth), Ruth (Nicola Walker), Fiona (Olga Sosnovska) and rising star Zafar (Raza Jaffrey) are back - as topical and as timely as ever ʼnn a high-octane, two-part, feature-length special guest starring Martine McCutcheon in her first UK TV role since leaving EastEnders.

MI5's crack team of spies were left reeling after the shocking death of Danny at the hands of hostage-takers at the end of the last series. Now the team sets out to be even stronger in their battle to safeguard the nation at a time of unprecedented danger and unexpected threats.

It is the day of Danny's funeral, and the entire team is together for an emotionally-charged farewell to their colleague. But even as the service begins, they receive the first indication of a major bomb blast in Central London that heralds the onset of a new terror campaign. In a frantic race against time, MI5 has 10 hours to prevent a catastrophe, under the scrutiny of Juliet Shaw (Anna Chancellor), National Security Co-ordinator, Harryɓ nemesis, and also a figure from his past. And in a station coffee bar, waitress Tash (Martine McCutcheon) is about to have her life changed
irrevocably as an unwitting witness to the bomb makers.

"It's amazing to be part of this show," says Martine,"although so much has happened in the world since we finished filming.Who would have thought it would turn out to be so close to what actually took place?

"Tash is remarkably quick and bright. She's had to be clever in situations in her everyday life, and she uses that experience and channels it in a different way to survive in this bizarre situation. The experience changes her for ever; she's a survivor, but she'll be looking over her shoulder again for a long time."

Spooks also features return appearances from Hugh Simon and Rory MacGregor. Guest artists starring in the series include Rupert Graves, Jimi Mistry, George Baker, David Threlfall, Douglas Hodge and Lindsay Duncan. The story concludes tomorrow....

TV Drama Publicity: Spooks: Day and time to be confirmed BBC ONE

MI5's crack team of spies are back in place together and working at a frantic pace to avert disaster, in the conclusion of this two part story. While Harry (Peter Firth) and Juliet (Anna Chancellor) are locked in a power struggle,Adam (Rupert Penry-Jones) and Zaf (Raza Jaffrey) are on a desperate mission to find another bomb before it explodes, and all realise that there's a mole in their midst.

But who is it, will they reveal the bomb maker and why has Tash (Martine McCutcheon) mysteriously disappeared while in their care? There's another deadline approaching, and this time itɓ more ominous than ever.

"Juliet Shaw is a powerful woman, driven, ambitious and unyielding," says Anna Chancellor of the newcomer to the grid."She's one of those women you can't say no to, once she's set her sights on someone, and she's marked Harry." "Adam is very wary of her,"Says Rupert Penry-Jones. "He understands that they both have their place on the grid, and he tolerates her, but is he ever going to warm to her? I donɔ think so."

Meanwhile, there's a new partnership emerging between Adam and Zaf."He trusts Adam implicitly, doesn't always agree with him, but would lay down his life for him," says Raza Jaffrey. "Zaf is proud of the life he's chosen, even if he knows it's a lonely existence." "Adam's a big brother figure to Zaf," adds Rupert."He was tough before, but now he's even more hardened since Danny's death. He's seen it all before, but he's determined never again to lose anyone else in the team."

Caught By The Knackers

A woman with an iron-like grip after years of milking goats beat off two robbers by grabbing one of them by the testicles and squeezing as hard as she could. Lithuanian Soja Popova, 93(!), was shoved to the ground when she opened the door to the 25-year-old pair, but she grabbed the mearest and squeezed, with, she said, "...all my force as hard as I could".

She added "He started screaming likw an animal and his friend was trying to pull him free, but I have a grip like iron". The man's screams of agony and his friend's shouts for the woman to let go alerted neighbors, who called police. When officers arrived a few minutes later Miss Popova, who still had the man's wedding tackle tightly in her grip, finally released her prey so police could take the injured man to hospital and his accomplice off to jail.

A police spokesman said: "They would not have got far, one of them could hardly walk and seemed pleased when he saw the police car. He demanded that he be taken to hospital because he was in so much pain."

Coalhouse Fort, Essex

For you Batman enthusiasts - the first 7 minutes of Batman Begins was filmed in Coalhouse Fort.

We went there over the last weekend. There was lots of this going on:

Of course the main event was a remembrance parade for VJ Day. A parade of "old soldiers", flags lowering, the Last Post being played - all moving stuff. And these guys were, of course, just ordinary blokes when they went to war for their country, but came back heroes:

And they were proud to show them off as well.

War. Let's not do it again, eh?

"All Kinds Of Everything...

................" - all you Dana fans can fill in the missing spaces there :)

Lordy - what a hectic time! Obviously, the BIG THING at the present moment is the change of jobs. I shall be starting my new job on Monday 12th September - in three weeeks time. In the meantime, (as per a meeting with my boss last Friday), I have a shit load of things today before I go. But there should be no problemo there.

The new job, (as promised - some more details coming up!), is working for a foreign exchange organisation. I'll be auditing the exchange bureaus, and other process and investigative stuff. All jolly good fun! It, of course, calls on all my experience to date, but will also involved being trained on lots of new things. And I'm really looking forward to it.

On other things....

There was a Barclays Bank TV advertisement which featured a man being stung in the mouth by a wasp. For some bizarre reason, Barclays Bank thought this was a good vehicle on which they could advertise their services. Quite frankly the advertisement was extremely distasteful & distressing to watch. And I'm not really a squimish kind of guy - but it didn't appeal to me either. In fact, I was so put off by the advertisement, that I complained to the Advertising Standard Authority it" So, after several emails, and a few letters, I now know the outcome of the meetings between the ASA, Barclays Bank and the advertising firm who did the adverts for Barclays Bank...... unfortunately I'm not at liberty to tell you the result until it is published on the Advertising Standards Authority website on Wednesday 31st August. So go there to check out what happened to the Barclays Bank "Wasp Ad".

Oh yes - it will be my last retail audit for PC World, (and Dixons), tomorrow in PC World Ashford. It won't be a sad occasion. Lets be honest, I'll be glad to see the back of those sodding PDTs! And I won't have to lug around all kinds of cables, equipment, battery chargers etc etc anymore. But it will be the end of an era - which started back in 1996. Life goes on, eh? ;)

Anyway - time for breakfast. Look after yourselves - and smile at everyone you meet today - it'll brighten your day up! :)

5 Days Since I Resigned

Sounds like the title of a good country & western song doesn't it? Well, it's true. Last Friday I handed in my notice. Due to stuff going on within the company, it's not until this Friday morning that I get to discuss everything with my boss. Ho hum. That's life I suppose.

So, what's happening with yourself? Been up to anything good lately? Anything that you'd like to share with your old Uncle Paul in the commenty thing at the foot of this blog?

Let's be honest - blogging can be a bit of a lonely business at times..... that's if you really give a shit how many people drop by, and if they leave any comments or not. But remember for everyone who is reading this now - I have your I.P. address logged - I KNOW WHERE YOU LIVE! :) So hello to all my friends in France who arrived via a link in their emails - zut alors! etc. And for all those peeps who searched for naked mud wrestling and hair wax - the top searched phrases at the moment, (and probably for all time!), ever since I created separate webpages for those old blog subjects - isn't it nice to come to the homepage - to the creator of the pages you have just read :)

To all my loyal fans over the years who keep popping in & out every now and again I say a big Thank You - I'll be putting up a Paypal button soon so you can donate to the upkeep of Blogging With Dr P.. - and keep me living in the manner I so richly deserve :)

Bad News Bears - Movie Review

Yes. Go see it.

Best line by Billy Bob Thornton?:

Baseball - you can love it, but it don't love you back. It's a bit like dating a German chick

I mean - how could you not see a movie with lines like that in it, right? Go see Bad News Bears. If you liked Billy Bob Thornton in Bad Santa - then you'll really like him in this. I say again: Go see Bad News Bears

Today I Resigned

Yes. It's true. Today I resigned from Dixons. After 8.5 years of working for the biggest electrical retailer in Europe, I finally have reached a point where it is time to move on.

The point, as such, was really reached for me back in March of this year when I was put on a 90 day notice of redundancy - and thus my job was going to cease to exist as of the start of the new financial year on May 1st. If you recall, my old job included me in going to France on such jolly jaunts as this one in Feb 04, this one in March 04, and more recently the Three Paris Blogs entries from April 2005 which are here, and here, and finally here. My work with PC City France was probably the most rewarding and fulfilling thing I've ever done - and I wish them all the success in the world as they begin to expand across France with more store openings.

Of course, I started back in Dixons as a mere auditor back in 1996. Aye, them were the days - sheets of coloured paper, large bulky brown envelopes to post, and no Link stores! Then I moved onto to be a Senior Auditor. This entailed looking after a team of auditors, being in charge of large site audits, (such as the infamous Returns Warehouse Audit!), and, of course - my 4 year involvement with PC City France. Since May this year until now I moved across to work in PC World as a Regional Field Adminstrator.

And now onto bigger and better things. I'm taking my auditing skills into the world of FX: Foreign Exchange. I'll tell you all about the company a little later. Suffice to say that these *things I have been talking about in the past have now turned out for the good - finding another job :)

I'm going to miss an awful lot of people in Dixons - and, I guess, a few of them will miss me ;).

It was an interesting ride :)

Newmarket 2005

Honestly. And you'd think with two weeks vacation that I should be able to fit some quality blogging time in, wouldn't you? Well, it's been a strange two weeks so far....

Firstly I was abandoned! by Sue. Not exactly. She went back to Texas to see the folks and the homestead for a week, (straddling over the last weekend). She came back today. During the few days running up to last weekend I was creating more webpages for my Laser Eye Surgery website. I now have specialist pages for Edmonton, Victoria, Vancouver, and Winnepeg - all major cities which were being constantly searched for, and arriving at the Canadian Lasik Lasix Laser Eye Surgery Review page. I'll also be creating pages for Montreal, Ottowa, and Calgary. The Australian Lasik Lasix Laser Eye Surgery Review will also see an expansion in pages over the coming months.

Now. Over the last weekend I went to Newmarket, Suffolk - and NOT for the horse racing. Oh no. This weekend saw the 21st anniversary of The Games Weekend - an annual gathering in Adrian's lofty country mansion ;) on the edge of Cheveley Stud, near the village of Cheveley, just outside Newamarket. Present at these gatherings are a smattering of my brothers, a few freinds - and in-laws of Adrian. Naturally - it's a boys thing :)

BERNIE

Yes - this is Bernie, and his amazing balanced pint of Guiness. This was a Saturday morning - we had only just begun. In fact, there'd also been a Friday night down t'club which involved such hedonistic activities as dominoes and snooker...

Anyway, there was much merriment(!) on Saturday which included drinking, snooker and bowling. It had been approx. 365 days since I had last bowled - at Newmarket. Boy did it hurt on Sunday! I mean I know you know when I say my left buttock was strained like buggery - you know what I mean, right? (God I hope so!). But I did manage to win a frame with a lousy score:

Sunday was down the oub in the village - and we all had to go home on Monday - boo! But what a great weekend! I hope to get thte time to do more with the hundreds of photos I took.... most of them blurred.

Soooo - what about the rest of the two weeks? Well, from Monday to today I spent redesigning the layout of the blog here - and updating all the old blog pages so that now everything has a corporate feel to it.

I am currently occupied with other things* - to be discussed at a later date - but some time soon - promise ;)

* these are the same other things I've mentioned mysteriously briefly in the past before :)

Nigerian Email Scam

This has to be one of the best so far, so I thought I'd publish it all here:

YOU CAN REACH ME IN MY PRIVATE EMAIL(BarristerKelvinAnderson@yahoo.com)
FOR MORE DETAILS OF THE TRANSACTIONS.
BARR.Kelvin Anderson.Tel:2348033902225

Dear Beloved,
It is by the grace of God that I received Christ, knowing the truth and
the truth have set me free.Having known the truth, I had no choice than
to do what is lawful and right in the sight of God for eternal life and
in the sight of man for witness of God´s mercy and glory upon my
life.
I have the pleasure to share my testimony with you, having seen your
contact from the Internet. I am BARRISTER Kelvin Anderson, the legal adviser
to late Mr. and Mrs. Bright Williams,a British couple that lived in my
Country Nigeria for 25 years before they both died in a plane crash
late last year. These couple were good Christians, they were so
dedicated to God but they had no child till they died. Thro ughout their
stay in my country, they acquired a lot of properties like lands, house
properties, etc.

As their legal adviser, before their death, the husband Mr. Bright
Williams instructed me to write his WILL. Because they had no child,
they dedicated their wealth to God. According to the WILL, the
properties have to be sold and the money be given out to a ministry for
the work of God. As their legal adviser, all the documents for the
properties were in my care.

He gave me the authority to sell the properties and give out the fund
to the Ministries for the work of God. To cut the story short, I sold all the properties after their death, as instructed by my client,Mr. Bright Williams before his death. And as matter of fact, after I sold all their perties, expectedly, I realized a huge amount of money that runs into millions of dollars, and what supposed to be the percentage interest of my right legal fee was firstly deducted by me out of the total amount realized from the sold properties, this was based on the initial agreement between me and the owner of the properties before his death.

Therefore, the total amount left to be invested into God's work as
instructed by the owner is $20,000,000.00 (twenty million US dollars)
only. But Instead of giving the main fund out for the work of God as
instructed to me by my client before his death.
I converted the fund to myself with the intention of investing the fund
abroad for my personal use. I was afraid of putting the fund in the
Bank, because I have to give account to the bank on how got the money.
I then packaged the fund in consignments and deposited the consignments
with a security company. I did not want the management of the Security
Company to know the content of the consignments, therefore I registered
the content of the consignments as Gold Bars. Now, the securit y company
believes that what I deposited with them was Gold Bars.
I had encounter with Christ when Pastor Benny Hinn was preaching on
television concerning Ananias and Saphira in Acts 5:1-11. After hearing
the word of God, I gave my life to Christ and became a born again
Christian.

As a born again Christian, I started reading my bible and one day, the
Lord opened my eyes to Ezekiel 33: 18 and 19. From the scripture, I
discovered that the only way I could have peace in my life is to do
what is lawful and right by giving out the fund as instructed for the
work of God by my client.
I have asked God for forgiveness on my initial thought concerning the
money, and I know that God have forgiven me. But I have to do what is
lawful and right in the sight of God by giving out the fund to the
chosen ministry for the purpose of God's work as instructed by my
client before his death.

After my fasting and prayer s, I asked God to make his choice and direct
me to a honest Christian or the chosen ministry that deserves this fund
by his Grace. I then came across your address on the Internet as I was
browsing through a Christian site, and as a matter of fact, it is not
only you or your ministry that I picked on the Christian site
initially, but after my fervent prayer over it, then you were nominated
through divine revelation from God, so that was how I received such a
divine revelation from the Lord, how I got your contact information, and
I then decided to contact you for the fund to be used wisely for things
that will glorify the name of God.

I have notified the Security Company where I deposited the consignments
that contained the fund, that I am moving the consignment abroad and
the security company has since been waiting for my authority for the
consignment to leave my country and be moved abroad.
So if you know that you w ill use this fund honestly and wisely for
things that will glorify God's name, then do contact me back,ASAP.Then
you send to me in your reply,YOUR FULL NAMES,YOUR PERSONAL ADDRESS,YOUR
TELEPHONE AND FAX NUMBERS.These informations are required by the
seurity company to facilitate the process of the funds receiver's
documentation Your prompt response will be highly appreciated in my private email
adress:(BarristerKelvinAnderson@yahoo.com)

God bless you.
Yours in Christ.
BARRISTER kelvin Anderson.

backBlog is Back..!

But it never really went away. Further to comments below from y'all, I did a bit of investigating with my good friend Yariv at backBlog, as to why the comments were not available recently. This was the prompt reply:

Hi Paul,

The service was occasionally offline in the last two weeks, but things should be OK now, since the site moved to a new location.

Yariv @ backBlog

So, never let it be said that I don't promote a good thing when I have one. Use backBlog for your blog comments - I do! :)
